Back on Apple Music

After a bit of delay, Riding Solo is back on Apple Music

It is also on Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, and other streaming services.

Fun fact: this track was originally released in 2022 and has a Country twang to the vocals. So grab your cowboy hats and boots if you so desire!

New Again

I have gotten back to publishing again.

Riding Solo is my first track to be re-released after changes in my distribution journey started in fall 2023.

Through Distrokid, I was able to get back on most of the digital platforms that I wanted to get on. However, there are some drawbacks too.

As currently configured, distribution to DJ facing resources is restricted to one, Beatport. The bigger issue there is that proper label attribution can not be done on Distrokid. Boo!

So going forward, I’m likely to use this distribution channel when I want to go experiment with a sound. A vehicle where my music and the other producer/DJs I work with published on mGrooves Music is still to come.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy being able to play Riding Solo again. Other digital streaming services this track will be available on added daily.

In The Lab

It’s been over a year since I switched to streaming some of my DJ sets to Twitch. I landed there for a variety of reasons but here are the key points.

Twitch wasn’t new to streaming. Having served the gaming community for a long stretch, they had much infrastructure already in place and that meant absorbing a lot of newcomers wasn’t too much of a heavy lift as it was for many other platforms expanding into that space in the middle of a pandemic.

Their overall sound and video quality in-stream was equal to or better than most of their nearest competitors.

The part where they struggled with the most was structuring their copyright compliance so that it fit what deejays do. After a few hiccups they also seem to have landed in a very good position there as well. The only platform that might be better positioned in this arena might be Mixcloud. Interestingly though, they have had some significant growing pains in the other two areas I mentioned above.

So in an effort to grow on Twitch and to satisfy all you voyeurs, this month I will start doing periodic live streams while I’m creating new music. Here’s your chance to get a peek into a part of my creative process. This is an addition to my DJ sets that I stream on that platform.

Throbbing Video

I went back to finish the video to go with my Contraband redux of Janet’s Throb I call Throbbing.

I felt it was fitting because another friend of mine, Terry Thompson, said he was going to be dropping that track in his set at Club 1722 in Baltimore.

Hey, Look!

So here I go. I’m trying to get better at giving you all a better look into my creative process and inspirations.

Earlier this week on my Instagram account, I shared the raw beat I was making for a this new track I’m currently calling LFO (I Feel It).

In it I am using a bit of prose, a haiku, I wrote last year. This is not the first time I have used my own prose or poetry in my music. You can see Strictly Butter, Back In, or some of my older tracks for other examples.

Math (edit)

This recent debate and hesitancy about the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is ironic.

If such a big deal has been made for a grand total of 6 people, where is the outrage for the much more numerous excessive use of force by police?

There was almost no hesitancy for me getting inoculated. This despite possessing a healthy distrust of large institutions.
